The melt-in-your-mouth texture of the IT Isn’t Shammi Kebab, coupled with the crunchy lettuce and onions are a gift wrapped within a pita pocket.
Although it has many components, the simplicity of this dish makes it a wonderful weekday lunch or dinner, with all the ingredients being readily available through the year, at any supermarket.

Cherry Tomato Roundels |
For the Yoghurt Sauce:
1/2 Cup |
Hung Curd or Greek Yoghurt |
1/2 Teaspoon |
Minced Garlic |
1 Tablespoon |
Finely Chopped Onion |
1 Tablespoon |
Parsley Coarsely Chopped |
1 Tablespoon |
Extra Virgin Olive Oil |
1/2 Tablespoon |
Lemon Juice |
1/2 Tablespoon |
Sumac Powder (optional) |
As Required |
Ground Pepper |
Steps for Yoghurt Sauce:
- To prepare the Yogurt Sauce, combine the ingredients listed above in a small bowl. Cover and chill until ready to serve.
Steps for Pita Pocket:
- Cook the Shammi Kebab in a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat until crispy on both sides.
- Toast the pita pockets until slightly brown
- Layer in a few lettuce leaves inside the pita pocket
- Spread 1 tablespoon of the Yogurt Sauce on the lettuce leaves.
- Fill each pita half with 2 patties.
- Divide tomato and onion evenly among pita halves, and drizzle evenly with 1 tablespoon sauce.
- Garnish with some more fresh parsley leaves
- Serve with extra yoghurt sauce and enjoy!
